Industrial Training of the Students of EEE Department, Islamic University of Technology (IUT) Completed
The Closing Ceremony of Industrial Training of EEE Department of Islamic University of Technology (IUT) organized by Bangladesh Power Management Institute (BPMI) was held on 12 October 2021 Tuesday using an online virtual platform. 325 students in 2 separate batches of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Department of 2017 and 2018 Batch have completed their Industrial Training which was organised by BPMI using online platform from 26 September to 12 October, 2021. They were provided with the professional knowledge & skills of power sector. They were shown real on site videos to fulfil the requirement of site visit.
Respected Adviser for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikram graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of IUT were present as the special guest. Prof. Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin, Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of IUT was present as the Guest of Honour.
At the beginning, the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family and martyred on 15th August 1975 and the martyrs of 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh was remembered with great honour. Mr. Golam Rabbani MDS of BPMI and Joint Secretary of Power Division gave the welcome speech.
Four Students on behalf of all 325 Participants gave their speech about the training program. They highly praised BPMI Officials and Trainers effort to cover the whole power system related subjects within a week. Also they admired the trainer’s initiative to show live demonstration of Power Plant and substation. They mentioned that the materials and class recordings provided will be very much helpful for them in their future academic / professional career. They suggested to organize field visit after Covid pandemic situation through BPMI. They also suggested to organize more extended face to face training as well as internship in different companies through BPMI. They also gave an improvement suggestion to increase no. of days and decrease session length of a day to make learning more effective for the participants.

He also expected that the relation between BPMI and IUT will be strengthen in future.
Vice Chancellor, IUT, Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, BB to show deep interest in IUT activities. He recalled the father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahmans presence in 2nd Summit of OIC in 1974 which resulted in the establishment of Islamic University of Technology (IUT). He also expressed his immense gratitude to our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to introduce dormitory and female education in IUT.
He mentioned that IUT is trying to get accreditation from accreditation council. Also, IUT signed MOU with different educational and industrial organizations in home and abroad. He expressed his deep interest to sign an MOU with BPMI to extend collaboration in organizing training and research activities and he expect this cooperation will continue. He expressed gratitude to BPMI to organize such an extensive program within such a short time upon IUT’s request.

He instructed to make a blend of online learning and face to face training as well as field visit to solve the problem of lengthy sessions. He also mentioned this hybrid learning process might be an appropriate pedagogy for making the learning more effective.
He was glad to know that Nuclear Power Plant Topics is also covered in this Industrial Training Curriculum. He also instructed to arrange sessions on Fuel Diversity, Different Generation Strategy like Dual Fuel, Grid Stability & Restoration from sudden disconnection or blackout and these kind of challenges. Also he advised to show 3D Printed Model of Power Plants, Substations and other equipment to make learning more effective. He emphasized to sign MoU between BPMI and IUT to extend the cooperation and collaboration in training and other research activities in near future.
